The end of an era

In a couple of days a decade will have ended. Say what?! I honestly hadn’t thought about this years end in such a way until someone had brought it to my attention. Crazy as it seems we are about to enter the “tens”. I’m not here with a sappy countdown of the past 10 years or the best and worst fashion moments, although I wish I had the time to culminate such a list, instead here’s a few tips on how to have the time of your life and start the next ten years in the hottest freakum dress out.

The basics-

Make plans! It’s not too late to buy a ticket to the party the bar down the street is throwing or send out an evite to host a shin dig at your casa. I find that New Years Eve is the hardest time to “fly by the seam of your pants”, if you have some kind of party plan with great people you are sure to have an awesome night, as long as you are dressed appropriately of course ;-)

Be a well oiled machine. Drink plenty of water during the day so you can prevent a post soiree hangover, especially if you are headed to an open bar. Eating a real meal helps as well, trust me I used to live off saltines and provolone and then would wonder why I was “three sheets to the wind” in less than an hour.

Make a statement! Okay this is where wardrobe comes into play. If it’s typical NYE sparkle and shine dress code, then I say you should have the brightest spark in your sparkle and the shiniest sheen in your shine. We are about to kiss good-bye a cluster of 10 crazy years, and I think dressing for the occasion is a must.

Here are a few of my suggestions on how to say arrivederci to 2009 and ring in 2010 as the year of yOu.

While everyone else is sporting their shiny round discs, its hip to be square or- rectangular to be exact, in the La Rok Sequin Shimmey Dress. Shake this look up with a bright tight in a mulberry or a deep purple.

Set yourself apart from the crowd and command full attention in a statement making hue like this tangerine, Deja Ribbon Back Dress. Super sleek structured stilettos will seal the deal on this look.

If you want less party dress and more party lean towards the, Moonlight Tier Dress by Freepeople. It’s a fun and flirty frock that can be worn for more than just new year’s eve. Top this off with a signature jacket, a leather or a fur bolero would be sensational.

Fun and funky all in one place = this asymmetrical strap dress from Twelve by Twelve. I would pair this with short wrist length leather gloves and a colored clutch to make a real impact.

To all of my aspiring hussies out there- no this is not a dress suggestion. Leave the “pantsless” trend to the Beyonce, Shakira and GaGa’s of the world. This is your sexy secret weapon. No matter how big or small you are I suggest you wear a body shaper on such a marathon evening as NYE. A couple glasses of wine in you may forget to stand up straight, hold your tummy in and push your derriere out when your 2010 obsession walks by.

Last but not least- Please warm up to this, my favorite “getting ready” song of the decade:

oh and don’t forget to…

Charge your camera!

   Happy New Year Darlings!

Ciao for now,
