Maxin’ & Relaxin’

Bad to the bone with some sweet stripes makes for a fine maxi mix.

In the midst of the maxi-ness is a post for those who gravitate towards this style for its So-Cal casual factor. Pair it with a t-shirt or a leather jacket wear it to brunch, run a few errands, this look is understated elegance at it’s best.

1. There is a fine line between slouchy and sleek, good news is Minka Kelly is walking on the right side of that line. An easy t-shirt with a little drape layered over a solid cami in a bright color, and a maxi skirt in an even bolder hue, is a simple but stylish way to hit the town for the day. And, obviously… loving that tote!

2. Some of the “pretty” skirts can feel a bit too girly. Rough up a pale, pleated number with edgy accessories and a vintage t-shirt for a little bit of street cred.

3.For the true bohemian, a jersey maxi in a solid shade, paired with flat sandals and a crossbody bag is a ringer. Up the style factor like in this photo, by only using warm {or cool} colors to give the look some distinction.

4. This would be the dressiest of the relaxed maxi’s. I am a sucker for a belt, of course, because I love seeing a woman’s shape. That knit belt combined with another drape-y top {are we seeing a trend here?!} and those chic little ballet flats really give this look a boatload of style points.

5. And for the style Grand-Slam look no further than to, hot-to-trot new momma Beyoncé, killing it in a vibrant Etro style. She worked the cool factor with those accessories, but I am really loving that brilliant long sleeve. Way to make an outfit even more vivacious Bey!

6. Alternative Apparel Black Nautical Stripe {$58! Why not?}

ShopBop is more than an extensively amazing of-the-moment-fashion retailer, they sell style. This Alice + Olivia skirt is a bit wild but the look is an attainable outfit. The ease of the light weight {slightly sparkly!} sweater gives off that “Ohh,this old thing?” charm without the hours of agonizing. Obsessed.

Another online retailer with a coveted and respected aesthetic, JCrew. I thoroughly enjoy getting their catalog in the mail because it is not only a source of inspiration, it’s a portable work of art. They pair preppy/edgey things together, all the while always coming across stylish and clean. Who doesn’t love looking like that!?

*Rule of thumb with the knit skirts especially, make sure to hem it a 1/2″ from the ground, nothing worse than a dirty skirt dragging around. For my ladies with the baby bumps, tomorrow is all about you! See you then ;-)
