On The Cuff

Contrary to candid conversations seeing the light in politics, going off the cuff is not where it’s at in regards to innovative styling. A minor detail is transforming an entire look and is most certainly getting my vote. A little bit of cuff love is upgrading the lower half of the fellas from bland-y to dandy.

Seen on many of the elite men’s fall runways, one of my favorite brands to deliver on this styling trend was Michael Bastian. It is done in a way that attracts attention but doesn’t distract.

So you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “I’m stylish but how would I go about pulling off such a look?” My reply: As is with any kind of change, having confidence is half the battle. The other 50% can be achieved by following these sweet little tips:
1. Have your tailor add a cuff to your pants that is anywhere between 1″ and 1 1/2″.

2. Make sure the overall hem of your pants fall at least 1/2″ above your shoe leaving no break. This is sock showing territory so make sure you put in some effort putting on a pair that compliments your look.

3. Cuffing is not reserved for only dress fabrics experiment with all that the season has to offer by daring to take your cords, heavy wool, and khakis up a notch.

Steve Urkel was on to something in the style department (with those thick specs that are currently adding insta-cool to anything) and now high-water hems are turning heads. The difference between his clueless geek bottoms and yours? That cuff. It adds elegance and shows the look has a purpose, ya know, the kind of move Stefan Urquelle would make.
