Okay it happened, I finally figured out what to fill the Friday slot on the blog with, hellooo boys. Since I style both the females and fellas, and I get a lot of fashion inquiries from the opposite sex, I felt it only fitting to shell out some swag tips just for the gentlemen. I don’t want to overwhelm so in true end of the week fashion there will be a bit of manly inspiration, and I’ll be highlighting one item to work into your wardrobe, where to find it, and how to get the most out of that piece.

With a weekend of mayhem ahead, there are a few things you shouldn’t be without, and aside from that Get Out Of Jail Free Card, a watch with some clout is topping that list. T-shirt and jeans, sporty Sperry’s and some plaid, swimming shorts and the six-pack you’ve been working all winter on, whatever your Memorial Day attire, a timepiece with some personality can only improve your look.

The kick off to back to back weekends of  playtime is upon us. Trust me, the Primaries I am talking about today are more about your basic palette being colorfully correct than political. With the sun shining hard over the weekend, the window was wide open for my first seersucker opportunity. I got this fantastic pair of stripe-y and slightly textured trousers from JCrew earlier in the season. Wanting to style my look with them being more posh than preppy, I brought in some sleek pieces like my drape-y H&M tank, Calvin Klein Vivian stilettos in royal blue {I told you they were comfortable in previous posts, which is why I now own them in two colors, get on ‘em!} and my Edie Attache Bag {courtesy of my amazing sister & her bf for my bday! What an awesome gift, right?!} . Playing with vibrant hues a la Roy G Biv, minus the middle initial, made this look come to life and taking a cue from Mr. T in the accessories department added a hit of glam that I just love.

I was having a little Sunday Funday playtime along the waterfront in Weehawken. Seersucker can certainly be filed under sailor chic, so it was fitting to snap a few photos by the boats at the Lincoln Harbor Yacht Club, check it out.

It’s time to get peppy, and find a way to work this uber flattering trend into your spring/ summer wardrobe. Shakira said it best, hips don’t lie, but this is a great shape that can handle a bit of fashionable fibbing.  A peplum style can give a little umph where the straight and narrow are lacking and coincidentally accentuate all that is right with my big bottom bellas. The base of this silhouette {on dresses and skirts} is lady like and sleek, a fan {and fella} favorite for sure.  You can thank a strategically placed ruffle for hiding the area that, no matter how long you hold plank won’t seem to bust the bulge. If you are doing some well calculated “hiding” { like I did in my post on Monday } make sure your ruffle isn’t too limp {jersey/ knit fabric} or  too long {See Eva Mendes Met Ball 2012}. A peplum is meant to be short and flirty, not an entire other layer of skirt. See how it’s done below.

Alright ladies, you came, you saw, now conquer.

Have I told you how Zara has been killing it this season?! They usually are one of my favorite spots to shop, even when we were on our Honeymoon in Greece it rocked my world, but this season that place has become hazardous. I can not restrain myself from needing it ALL. My last visit I snatched up some great pieces including my apricot pleated maxi I featured a few weeks ago and today’s minty fresh peplum skirt. This piece is super on trend in shade and silhouette. I styled mine for Mother’s Day with neutral pieces, an easy ivory t-shirt from H & M, and Calvin Klein stiletto sandals. My accessories were on the more mellow side {for me} with my delicate Dogeared Whispers necklace and then my new obsession from Bauble Bar brought the excitement in the form of a rose gold disco wrap bracelet. My vintage bag and bracelet courtesy of my Nanny. I tried to show a little mother-son time in honor of the day, but as you’ll see my handsome boy Winston just wanted to refresh himself in the grass.

I always had a hard time throwing away the napkins my mom packed in my school lunches. They {the napkin} were always in the flamboyant Bounty print of the season and over the scene, in bold magic marker was a note from mom. Sometimes it was the drawing of an actual eye with pretty eyelashes, next to a heart and a horseshoe with the ends pointing up {I love you}. Sometimes it was a “You’ll do great” or a “Have a great day!” As I got older I would find these notes in my dorm room after opening a ridiculous care package from her. These packages contained everything I could need & want{ ya know sequins, glitter, feather boas, and homemade garbage bread } the girls in my hallway always came flocking when one came in from my mom, it was like opening a treasure chest. And as the years passed I moved into my own place, but still needed my trusty decorator. My mom would come visit, shop with me all day {it was so nice to have a car!} and show me how to home design on a dime as we frequented TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Ikea to add some chic to my new digs. I would leave for work the next day and she would still be in my place just providing some touches to a few things before she went home. When I returned from work, my apartment was transformed to something out of Elle Décor, refrigerator full of actual food, and a note on the counter saying she loved me xoxo.

Just wanted to thank you mom. Although I am 27 and married and 3 hours away, I recall not feeling so hot a couple of months ago and without a second thought you said “Do you want me to come down?”. You are a wonderful person inside and out, talented beyond words. Thanks for showing me what an exceptional person is, and one day when I am a mom I will make sure to get a good marker so I can start on my baby’s notes, because although short and sweet, they will have a constant reminder of how much I love them.

There she was  just a walking down the street, and everyone noticed her because of what was on her feet. My remix isn’t working for you? Well, regardless if you are on board with my song re-writing skills or not, you surely will be in agreement that the current trend in fabulous footwear is a MUST. Toes with a little extra something were ruling the Spring 2012 runways, especially at Louis Vuitton and have made their way to our favorite stores just in time for the season.  The cap toe look is a signature style for the house of Chanel but has currently trickled all over everything from flats to heels and at every price point. {Insert sweet sigh} Paired with denim and a chic blazer or finishing off a sleek dress, coordinating your warm weather looks with a cap toe pair will add an instant edge that’ll have you snapping your fingers and shufflin’ your feet.

On Sunday I had the spectacular opportunity {thanks to Lara at Pretty Connected} to attend The House of Field’s Global Warming Sunset BBQ to celebrate the warm season approaching and their new shop opening at the end of May! Fabulous weather was on the guest list, so the rooftop at 230 Fifth was even more extraordinary. Palm trees were grooving, avant-garde style was a plenty and Pat Field was in the house rocking out with the best of ‘em. My fab friend M from Belles and Rebelles came with me {you can see her in my photos below, she is wearing the electric blue glasses and AH-MAZING costume jewels} and we had a ball absorbing all the fashion fever and unending fierceness.

How was that for a boat load of unique styling inspiration. House of Field’s guests were not fooling around.

The fact that I was able to meet THE WOMAN who has changed the face of styling , from Sex and the City to Devil Wears Prada and beyond… I am just, beyond. She was so cool, and so much fun, I was thrilled to join in the Global Warming festivities with such a cutting edge crowd. Looking forward to the opening of the new store, stay tuned for that!

To quote LMFAO “This is how I roll, animal print pants, outta control.” Today’s style inspiration comes by way of a late bday gift… which are the best because you forgot and then all the sudden, bonus! My cousin Daniella, aka my older sis, and mother of two gorgeous bambini’s clearly hasn’t lost her touch. She sent me the Guess Brittney skinny in leopard. I actually hadn’t dabbled in the printed denim trend at all, so this was a welcomed gift {Let me be clear though, all gifts are always welcomed }. I must say the fit on these jeans is great with a slightly higher rise, the perfect amount of stretch and the washed/aged print was just the right leopard. {Gotta be careful with your leopards some come across so juvenile or aren’t the right colors and look cheap} Since I was only hanging around my neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon I went easy with the styling balancing the print with neutral tones. An easy black top, my current obsession du jour Calvin Klein suede stilettos in sand {I also got them in royal blue, they are BEYOND comfortable} a couple key accessories like my trusty Gucci hobo, and some of my favorite bracelets.

Clearly I have  some thighs on me, but I have to say I think this trend isn’t only for the stick thin. If you style it right and pair your print with slimming pieces like a dark top and heels for some height I think we can all wiggle, wiggle, wiggle in a chic and sexy pair.

Are you still with me? Rounding out this trifecta of MAXImum style is the perfect summer staple for the mommy-to-be set. You’ve seen them on the coolest expecting Hollywood mommas, from Nicole Richie to Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani and the list goes on… But chicas sans paparazzi, also know this is a wardrobe essential when beating the heat and comfort are what is determining your fashion selections.

1. There aren’t many pint-sized fashionistas as adored as Nicole Richie. Point and case this contrasting look of black and white, looks so simple and yet so stylish. You could emulate this exact look and use the accessories department to make it your own with a scarf, layer in a couple of necklaces or try a few vibrant bangles.

2. Jessica Alba kept her look together with a monochromatic palette by taking the dark undertones of her Ella Moss knit skirt and bringing them out on top. The added edge of the sleeveless leather vest is killer and inserts a bit of personality into an otherwise universal look.

3. Radiant as ever Molly Sims goes all the way with a stunning and uber flattering maxi dress {and admits she is keeping it all together under that dress with Spanx!}. I know I’ve mostly been touching on skirts but I think the dresses, especially for the maternity set are just as valuable to the spring/ summer wardrobe. The styling is spot on, the tailored jacket and perfectly placed colorblocking nips this dress in just the right places to give her appearance a slimmer more refined silhouette, so her bump gets all the glory.

4.  This photo of Gwen Stefani was near the end of her third trimester and I give her props for keeping with her aesthetic through and through. She balanced her bold printed maxi with a top that I would think is a maternity essential, a great black wrap top with three-quarter sleeves. I am pretty sure you could live confidently and comfortably in a top like that.

5. Selma Blair did the bold print in maxi dress form and she did it well. This could have been a dangerous look for two reasons 1. an all over bold print can make you look larger especially on a shapeless item like a maxi dress. 2. A non-clingy {not jersey/stretch fabric} can give a bump a “tent look” in an instant. Selma avoided both these style casualties by securing a knotted sweater in a subtle coordinating color at the empire waist to create some guidelines while breaking up that large print. Well done.

6. Okay, you can hardly call this pregnant, but I won’t hate on Kristin Cavallari for looking absolutely gorgeous! This look is light, airy and completely fantastic! The skinny belt just above her belly is in a very flattering spot and adds some flair with its leopard pattern. The real show stealer here is that cuter than life cropped denim jacket. The white dress is so effortless, it makes a great stage for the retro style of the jacket, and it gives this outfit an overall modern feeling.

Now the best part of this on trend style is that you don’t always need to shop in the maternity section for it! Skirts and dresses cut from fabrics that have more give or a spandex blend are generous and you will be able to get away with wearing them as maternity. Below are a mix of maternity and non-maternity styles with stretch that will make your spring/summer belly proud.
